Lesson Highlights:

AGES 7-10
My class for younger students explores different themes and materials in a friendly atmosphere. The subjects for our art may include, animals (both real and mythical!), the outdoors, and summertime fun stuff.  Come with a willingness to try to new things and you will have a blast!

AGES 11+
Students over 11 years of age will create four, maybe five, paintings during the four class sessions.

The step-by-step approach we will be following as a class will ensure student success and enjoyment. The first day we will layout the foundations for each of the four paintings we will be doing. Then, throughout the week we will apply the skills and techniques covered during the classes to complete all four works. Topics covered include:

  • Palette Setup
  • Color-mixing Basics
  • Value
  • Still Life Basics
  • Lighting and Shadows
  • Landscape Basics
  • Volume and Mass (the Keys to Realism)

What to Expect

Art classes at The Poetry of Seeing mean that regardless of the experience level of the class, each student will be given opportunities for personal expression. Guidance is provided to cultivate critical thinking for every age so students achieve the goals they want for their artwork.

Location

My in-home studio is located in Woodbury just five minutes off Exit 24B when traveling south on Route 295. For those parents who would like to get some shopping done while their kids are creating their masterpieces, you will find Walmart five minutes away and the Deptford Mall only 10 more minutes away.

Do I have to leave my child during Art Camp? Not at all! My home studio has a reading area next to where I teach class. Feel free to sit back, relax, and listen in! You can also bring your Kindle or iPad, and I’ll provide you with access to complimentary WIFI.

Your Instructor

Hi, I’m Jeffrey Phillips, and I’ll be your child’s art teacher during art class! I have taught art for over twelve years. My experience spans elementary through high school. So, I’ve got your child covered!

I am passionate about sharing my love of art and art history with my students. Expect your child to have fun while stretching his/her creative muscles and learning new skills and techniques during our time together.
